Bethlehem Steel FC announced Tuesday it has transferred defender Ryan Richter to New York Cosmos of the NASL for an undisclosed transfer fee. Per club and league policy, additional terms of the deal were undisclosed.
"Ryan's leadership, durability and on-field performances have been invaluable to the development of so many of our academy players and young professionals in our inaugural season,” Steel FC head coach Brendan Burke said. “This was an excellent opportunity for Ryan and we wish him continued success in the push for an NASL title this fall."
Richter started all 29 matches at right back for BSFC and was one of four players in the USL to play every minute this season. The 27-year-old right back led Steel FC in numerous categories, including goals (5), assists (4), points (14) and minutes played (2610).
Prior to Steel FC, Richter played the 2015 season with Ottawa Fury where he appeared in 15 games and scored once. The former No. 5 selection by the Philadelphia Union in the 2011 MLS Supplemental Draft, he had also seen time with Harrisburg City and Charleston Battery of the USL along with 13 appearances in MLS with Toronto FC.
