Bethlehem Steel FC announced Monday it has sent midfielder Boluwatife Akinyode to North Carolina FC of the NASL for an undisclosed transfer fee. Per club and league policy, terms of the deal were undisclosed.
Akinyode saw time in 26 matches during Steel FC’s inaugural season, earning 24 starts in both the midfield and central defense. In the club’s inaugural season, he racked up the fourth-most minutes for Steel FC, playing over 2,100 minutes and attempting 13 shots.
Prior to joining Steel FC, Akinyode spent eight months with USL squad New York Red Bulls II. During his time there, during the 2015 season, Akinyode appeared in 21 matches, including 10 starts, and scored his first professional goal, as Red Bulls II made it to the Eastern Conference Semifinals of the USL playoffs.
