On a breezy and cloudy afternoon, Bethlehem Steel FC earned its second consecutive victory of the preseason, defeating Villanova 3-2 at the Higgins Soccer Complex.
Much like its preseason debut, Steel FC’s offensive prowess was on full display from the opening whistle with the club scoring three times in the opening half. Steel FC saw Santi Moar record his third goal of the preseason, while Yosef Samuel (second of preseason) and Josue Monge rounded out the stat sheet for the visiting club.
Bethlehem Steel FC opened the scoring in just the sixth minute on Monge’s goal. In a quick build up of play, the Academy midfielder found space outside the 18-yard box and fired home a shot from distance.
Ten minutes later, Steel FC doubled its lead over Villanova. After a steal in the midfield, the club attacked with Josh Heard delivering a pass on the wing to Moar. The Spaniard dribbled past his defender and fired a shot that seemed destined for goal, however it was cleared off the goal line. However, Samuel was able to collect the cleared ball and fire home a shot to make it 2-0.
With time winding down in the first half, Steel FC delivered its final goal of the half. Much like the club’s second goal, a quick takeaway led to another scoring chance for Steel FC. This time it was Josh Heard notching his fourth assist of the preseason, finding Moar in front of goal. With a shot at redemption, Moar fired a hard shot off the post that rattled into the back of the net.
The final half saw the Wildcats battle back with a pair of goals to make it 3-2. Steel FC regained control of the match over the final 10 minutes to seal the victory.
Steel FC returns to preseason action on Saturday, March 4, when the club hosts Temple University. Kickoff from the Power Training Complex is scheduled for noon and is free to the public.
