Despite blistery conditions, Bethlehem Steel FC recorded an early goal and held off Temple University to remain undefeated with a 1-0 decision at the Power Training Complex.
Steel FC’s third preseason match saw an influx of players from MLS-side Philadelphia Union, with numerous first-team players making an appearance in the friendly.
The lone goal of the match came in the 20th minute, with Union midfielder Adam Najem providing the offense. Najem provided the goal from distance, after finding space and delivering a precise shot on target in the upper right corner.
While the Steel FC offense provided the spark early, the club’s defense rose to the occasion to earn its second clean sheet in only three preseason contests. Leading the way was center-back Hugh Roberts, who went the full 90 minutes to anchor the defensive line.
Steel FC will look to build upon the positive momentum this week, as the club returns to training at YSC Sports ahead of more preseason friendlies that are scheduled in the upcoming weeks. The friendlies continue the club’s build up ahead of the club’s second season that opens on Saturday, April 1, against the Rochester Rhinos. Tickets are still available for the opener, with kickoff scheduled for 4 p.m.
