Bethlehem Steel FC will look for a strong end to its preseason slate when the club travels south for a friendly against the University of Maryland on Tuesday, March 6. Kick off from Ludwig Field is scheduled for 7 p.m. with the match free and open to the public.
Steel FC is coming off a busy weekend in which it downed Loyola University Maryland, 5-0 while falling to USL-rival Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, 2-0, at the Power Training Complex. Aidan Apodaca netted a brace against the Greyhounds to take the club lead in preseason goals with five. Brandon Allen tallied his third preseason goal while Chris Nanco and Mike Catalano netted their first of the spring. Against the Hounds, Steel FC had eight members of the Philadelphia Union appear in the match.
Tuesday night’s match will be the first meeting between Steel FC and the Terrapins. Steel FC is 2-1 this preseason against NCAA teams, with victories over Loyola and Syracuse.
Maryland is coming off a 10-win season where the Terrapins finished fourth in the Big Ten Conference and making the NCAA Tournament. Led by head coach Sasho Cirovski, Maryland returns all but three players from last year’s squad that netted 30 goals.
