Quote Sheet: Previewing Atlanta United 2

By Bethlehem Steel FC Communications, 07/09/18, 2:30PM EDT

Bethlehem Steel FC Head Coach Brendan Burke
On the loss to Penn FC on Friday
“Disappointing week didn’t get the result we wanted. The lack of energy in the center of midfield in particular in the first half killed us and it’s something that we talked about all weekend and something that we have to correct quickly. Luckily, we have a quick turnaround to head down to Atlanta and despite them being low in the table, we recognize they have only lost one game at home this year. It’s a very difficult task and going to demand a big response out of us.”

On getting to face a former player like Yosef Samuel
“It’s great to see Yosef getting an opportunity down there and he’s done well with his time. He’s played a big role with their team and I know that [Atlanta] is close to home for him so I’ve been happy to see him get a big role in their group.”

On the style of Atlanta United 2
“Very similar to their first team, they are modeled in similar ways to us and Red Bulls where it’s the same system, same approach and same style of play. I think you will see a 4-3-3 or some version of it and play out of the back. They have some very electric individuals. They have conceded a lot and that’s something we need to exploit but they have also done well going forwarded and created a lot of chances that on any given day, as Toronto [FC II] saw earlier this year when they put five goals up. We will be very aware of the potential they have going forward.”

On availability for this busy stretch coming up
“We’ll have to because Fabian Herbers is suspended so there will be changes to our 18 at a bare minimum to our front three. In terms of players coming back off injury, we have two or three players in [Brenden] Aaronson, Aidan [Apodaca] and Omar [Holness]. In combination that could be available by Wednesday based on what I’ve been told. And if not Wednesday then it may be Saturday.”

Bethlehem Steel FC midfielder Santi Moar
On becoming the club’s all-time leader in assists
"I’m really thankful for being able to play week after week. I’ve been given the opportunities to play on a really good team. Getting assists and scoring goals is one of my roles so I’m thankful for being part of the team and hope that I can keep adding stats to the scoreboard.”

On the challenges this compacted schedule presents
"You have to take care of your body. We played 90 minutes [Friday] and now we need to be smart and prepare for the game and not waste energy so that we can beat a strong team like Atlanta. Just taking care of our recoveries and the rest will come by itself.”

On facing a former teammate
"Yosef Samuel was my roommate last year so it will be nice to see him again. I hope he does well after we play him haha.”

Bethlehem Steel FC midfielder James Chambers
On getting back to the pitch after the loss to Penn FC
"We were extremely disappointed with the result and with the performance after the first 25 minutes on Friday. Thankfully, we have a midweek game to bounce back in and that’s what we have to do.”

On avoiding looking past Atlanta United 2
"It doesn’t matter what position [Atlanta] is in because anybody can beat anyone in any given day. We have no right as a group to think that we are going to go out and overturn a team, no chance. We played a couple of teams this year where we weren’t at the races and we struggled and against good teams we went and got points. Anybody can beat anyone in the league and we need to take each game on its merit, regardless of where the teams are on the table because it’s about us.”

On the challenges this compacted schedule presents
"It’s tough enough with the games every few days but we have a squad that is capable of dealing with it. People know that they are going to get minutes so it’s another performance for us to put the right foot forward.”
