Defender Olivier Mbaizo has been named to the USL Team of the Week for Week 21, after helping Bethlehem Steel FC to its second-consecutive victory.
The Philadelphia Union outside back earned the honor turning in one of his best performances of the season against the Richmond Kickers, collecting his first two assists with the club. Defensively, Mbaizo helped propel Steel FC to its third shutout of 2018 and a season sweep of the Kickers.
The 20-year-old provided the finishing touches on the road victory, sending a cross into the box that was headed home by substitute Omar Holness in the 77th minute. Mbaizo’s night wasn’t done as he delivered a timely pass through the Kickers’ defense that Michee Ngalina ran upon and finished inside the far post.
The accolade is the Cameroonian international’s first of his career and the club’s eighth of 2018. Mbaizo is joined by Brenden Aaronson (Week 20), Drew Skundrich (Week 16), Chris Nanco (Week 15), Derrick Jones (Week 14), Fabian Herbers (Week 10), Brandon Allen (Week 1) and Santi Moar (Week 8 and 12) as players to collect the league’s weekly accolades in 2018.
